The news is good and getting better for people thinking about selling their homes, so if you are getting ready to move… here are a few tips for getting your home ready to list:
- Starting with curb appeal, give your home the 20 second test. Look at your home like a prospective buyer , starting the front door, now might be a good idea to either paint or refinish it. Power wash the homes exterior and re-paint the trim.
- Painting the inside of your home accomplishes two things, #1 – your home will smell like it is well cared for, and #2 – new paint will freshen up your interiors. This doesn’t mean you should paint everything white, in fact, now is a good time to add some color. Go to your local hardware store and check out the new hip colors and go from there.
- De-clutter and clean your home top to bottom, especially the windows. One thing that sells a home is ‘lots of light’. Take down (or minimize) the window coverings to let the light in.
- Swap out your old dated light fixtures (and shades) with something new and modern, this will update a room immediately.
- Don’t forget the garage… paint the floors and walls, de-clutter and repair.
Skip the new addition, swimming pool and/or spa, you will never get your money back. And, if you have converted one of the bedrooms into a home office or den, switch it back, stage it… do whatever you have to do to turn it back into a bedroom.
