Century 21 M M Kicks off the 2011 Coats for Kids Campaign

The temperature outside is still in the 90’s, yet here at Century 21 M&M we are already thinking about winter and the Coats for Kids Drive that starts the end of October and ends early in December. For the past three years Century 21 M&M has been a major sponsor of this non-profit drive that benefits children in Northern California by providing warm coats for them during the coldest part of the year.

Currently, and till the end of September, Century 21 M&M is selling 500 Raffle tickets. Each raffle ticket is valued at $50.00 with a chance to win prizes all valued over $100.00! Prizes include iPads, Vacation Getaways, Kindles, Gas Cards and More. There will be 21 Prizes in all! This a great opportunity to win some great prizes while benefiting a very good cause and the purchase of these raffle tickets is tax deductible!

NOTE: You may contact Doug Wheeland at dwheeland@c21mm.com or Jesse Gibbs at jessegibbs@c21mm.com for more information.

Some of us have already started collecting both the new and used coats that will be distributed to families in need in our local communities. And, some of us are planning on eating our way towards supporting the Coats for Kids drive.

On Thursday September 22, 2011, between 4pm – 10pm, Century 21 M&M will partner with Chevys Fresh Mex at 1700 Standiford Avenue, Modesto, CA for a Fundraising Event.

Come dine with us, bring your friends and family and Chevys will donate 25% of the proceeds to the 2011 Coats for Kids drive.

Coats for Kids is one of the many ways that M&M Cares Foundation gives back to the communities that support our Realtors in their businesses.

During the Coats for Kids 2009 Campaign we had many heart warming stories of ‘kids helping kids’ by donating coats:

Kathleen Borbon, (11/13/2009) of the Century 21 M & M Real Estate Stockton office, said that at Galt High School, the students in her daughter’s English and Drama classes were collecting coats.

The Clovis office collected 470 Coats for Kids as of today (12/04/2009), most of them donated by children in the Clovis area. Until December 11, 2009, each child that donated a coat  received a “Free Movie Night”.

As of Wednesday (12/16/2009), Marya Pimentel in the Modesto office noted a coat count of 614 with at least 160 coats coming from Ricardo Jimenez’ daughter Mikaela’s sixth grade class hoping to win the drawing so that her class could take a field trip.

Dana Howell in the Los Banos office took the Coats for Kids Campaign to the streets (literally), marching in the Christmas parade pulling carts full of coats through downtown Los Banos.

On December 18th, 2009 Dana says, “What really pulled the heart strings was watching four children take off their personal coats and drop them into the carts—then run off without waiting for recognition or reward.”

And now the 2010 Coats for Kids Campaign is here, and we have 28 more days to collect 10,000 new or gently used coats. With that in mind, Century 21 M&M is kicking off another contest. This years contest focuses on classrooms:

2010 Century 21 M&M Coats for Kids $500.00 Grand Prize to the classroom that donates the largest number of coats

2010 Century 21 M&M Coats for Kids $100.00 2nd Prize goes to the classroom that donates the second largest number of coats.

Century 21 M&M looks forward to partnering with classrooms throughout Northern California. Teachers, if you are interested in participating in this Classroom contest, contact the Sales Manager for at any Century 21 M&M office, and we will be happy to arrange pick-up of your Coats for Kids.

Community service is good for business

Third of a four-part series

Community service is good business and many Realtors make the point of contributing to community service 52 weeks of year.

Jerilyn Von Flue, the sales manager of the Century 21 M&M and Associates office in Madera, has turned the Christmastime “Coats for Kids” promotion into a year-round campaign.

“After Coats for Kids we challenged every agent to bring in a coat a month,” said Von Flue.  “We already have a big container of coats.”

She said the 30-agent office has an active PR Committee, which organizes charitable participation for office and individual agents.  For example, the committee encourages agents to donate a dollar a month to purchase canned food for the needy.

The agents also participate in serving breakfast for the needy at a Madera soup kitchen.  “We serve anywhere from 150 to 350,” said Von Flue.  “They’ve served as many as 350 people.”

Madera Relay for Life

The Madera Century 21 M&M office also has made a difference at the Madera Relay for Life, an American Cancer Society fundraising event.  The Century 21 M&M group staged a raffle, had a booth selling snow cones and ice cream and overall raised $3,000.

The Relay for Life was a great community event, but it also was great exposure and a great opportunity for the public to see that Century 21M&M cares about their community and its people.

“When a name is in front of people all the time, they remember,” said Von Flue.  “Especially since we were the only real estate office in Madera that did the Relay for Life.”

Andy Krotik, manager of Coldwell Banker Gonella Realty in Atwater, also is a believer community service is good business.  He strives to get his entire office involved in the community.   He recommends the local Chamber of Commerce as the best place to start.

“I think the Chamber of Commerce opens doors to meet people,” he said.  “Right away you meet all the movers and shakers.”

While community service is good for business, Krotik said giving back to the community, not doing business, must be your No.1 priority.

“You can’t fake it,” he said. “You have to have a passion for it.”
